Got Wealth? Start Now

Are you like one of the nearly two-thirds of Americans responding to a survey who said they were making only “fair” or “no” progress in meeting their savings needs? According to Steve Brobeck, executive director of the Consumer Federation of America, “Only about one third of Americans are living within their means and think they are prepared for the long-term financial future.”

But even people who think they can’t save find out it’s not as hard as they thought — once they get started. Here are some tips from, sponsors of the annual America Saves Week:

  • Set a goal and make a plan. Whether it’s saving for a down payment, your retirement, your children’s education or an emergency, having a goal is key to taking action.
  • Save automatically. Use payroll deduction or automatic transfer to add to your share savings at Allsteel Credit Union.
  • Make it a family affair. National Credit Union Youth Week is April 20–26. Stop by the credit union to “Catch the $ave Wave” and open or add to your children’s accounts. It’s never too early or too late to start saving.
